Ubisoft Closing Online Servers for Several Games

By Marc Caccamise,
No one ever likes to see it happen, but it's something that will inevitably always occur. In a few days, a handful of Ubisoft games on the Playstation 3 will have their multiplayer servers taken offline. For the TT community this is especially notable news, because once these servers go offline, the multiplayer achievements will become unobtainable and therefore gamers will be unable to complete these games.

Ubisoft has noted that the discontinuation of these servers means that the online features will go offline, in-game news and player stats will be shut down, U-play services will be shut down and all units or rewards will be disabled, and unlockable content (ULC) will be disabled. However, Ubisoft also noted that if you unlock U-play rewards after the closure of the online services, you can contact their Customer Service to be refunded.

The discontinuation of these servers is scheduled to take place starting on Friday, August 8th. The following games, and their corresponding trophies, will be discontinued when that occurs:

- Call of Juarez the Cartel (6 trophies to be discontinued)
- James Cameron's Avatar (8 trophies to be discontinued)
- MotionSports Adrenaline (11 trophies to be discontinued)
- My Fitness Coach (no trophies to be discontinued)
- Pure Football (10 trophies to be discontinued)
- Shaun White Snowboarding (7 trophies to be discontinued)

These games will also see their online services discontinued, but these do not have trophy support.

- Haze
- Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 ***
- Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Double Agent

*** - Ubisoft noted that the multiplayer will still be functional, but some online features have been discontinued. In the case of Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2, it will be interesting to see what features exactly will be shut down if the multiplayer is to remain functional.

If you still have trophies to earn in any of these games then you had better get on it, because you have until Friday to unlock them. It would probably be a good time to consult the Gaming Sessions to look for others who are going for these trophies as well.
