LittleBigPlanet servers under threat again

By Kes Eylers-Stephenson,
Sackboy's yarn-spun world is becoming tangled in some serious drama, new information suggests. Issues across the LBP servers have been ongoing for around two months and had been sparsely communicated by the LBP team, until now.

Eurogamer initially reported on the tweet that points to further trouble for the LBP community. The servers were initially taken down by one disgruntled fan who launched a DDOS attack that closed servers for six weeks. Likewise, the LBP social media site was hit by an attack many weeks ago and has yet to come back online. With Sony understandably fearful about DDOS attacks after 'The Great PSN Outage of 2012,' the LBP community were left without some core functionalities — the ability to access, download, and/or share levels — as servers were taken offline as a precaution. Servers were eventually brought back up, but are already being taken offline again because of new developments.

Push Square has been following the events very closely and reports that the user has gained access to the notification system. The user has been using the in-game notifications to declare themselves a #LittleBigVictory and to share controversial comments. Rumours state that the user is irritated at the lack of support for the series, and so began a one-person reign of terror to... well, I don't know exactly. What is the point of this? It seems a strange way to show affection or bring attention to the series.

We will have to see how Sony deals with this and what preventative measures it will take in the future. Sackboy: A Big Adventure was a supposedly fantastic launch game for the PS5 and LBP 3 still has a vibrant community of players, so one hopes that Sony doesn't cut its losses on the series.

What do you think of all this? Any key takeaways? Any community members on the site want to keep us in the loop? Chat nicely about it down below.
