Days of Play sale offers discounts on PS4 and PS5 exclusives

By Kes Eylers-Stephenson,
Sony has now announced a list of exclusive games that will be featured in the upcoming Days of Play sale.

Over on PlayStation Blog, there is a list of the games in the sale and the activities lined up as part of the PlayStation Player Celebration.

The first part of the initiative is the community goals event that starts today. The PS4 themes and avatar prizes that will be rewarded for meeting certain goals that pertain to the amount of trophies earned and games played were listed during the announcement.

From May 26th until June 9th, there will be a digital games sale on the PSN Store and a physical promotion in the participating retail shops. There is a localised site aimed towards guiding you to physical retailers who will be involved when the event begins.

Now, for the bit we are all really here for: the games. These are the titles on sale. Get a load of this good-good.

For PlayStation 4:
For PlayStation 5:
For PS5, we are looking at the big-hitters of launch. Though launch games have traditionally been found in bargain bins within a year or two, these are games of extraordinary quality. One would imagine that the money-well isn't dry for these particular titles. With the shortage in consoles, a slow drip of consumers are entering the next-gen eco-system and are very likely pick up these tentpole titles because they are plastered all over the stores. So why are they being reduced in price?

Looking at the sales data is a little tricky at the moment because of the imbalance in PS4 to PS5 console ownership. Wreckfest, for example, was the third most played PS5 game recently, but only charted at 21. The more likely scenario is that this is a list of games that, at launch, most will have picked up one to test out the console before moving on to something like CoD. The sale might entice gamers who own one first-party game into buying another for a lower price. That darned little Sackboy is going to empty my wallet, alongside Miles Morales... and I fancy the challenge of Demon's Souls, you know? Oh well, I guess I'll grab all of them then.

The post also notes that there are three other components of Days of Play to look forward to. A free online multiplayer weekend will run from May 22nd until May 23rd. The Share of the Week initiative winner — where players can submit their prettiest screenshot to get highlighted in the community — will be announced on May 21st. The PS Gear Store will have some as-of-yet unconfirmed merchandise with a 20% discount. That Sackboy hat you have always wanted? Now might be the time.

This also comes on the back of news that there is one last batch of content available for the Play at Home event, so pick up some of those goodies for your favourite games before it come to an end.

That's you all caught up on Days of Play. Will you be picking up any of the titles on sale? Any recommendations? Is it just me who has an irrational love for Sackboy? Let us know down below.

Hey, I'm Kes! I'm a Staff Writer, and I've been here since 2021. What do I like? The Outer Wilds is top notch. The Witcher 3 blew my mind over the course of five years completing it. I want Burnout back — I really miss crunching mechanical wonders into walls to the sound of Guns N' Roses. Cool, now we are acquainted, I'll see you around.
