The news came via a Capcom press release, which also confirmed that its preceding game Resident Evil 7 Biohazard has shipped 8.5 million units. The Resident Evil series, meanwhile, has cumulatively shipped over 100 million units since 1996.

In Resident Evil Village, players "take on the role of protagonist Ethan Winters as they delve into a new kind of survival horror set in a mysterious, icy village. Built with Capcom's proprietary RE Engine, the game maximizes the potential of next-generation devices to deliver stunning, photorealistic visuals while utilizing cutting-edge audio technology."

Resident Evil Village launched last week on May 7th. We've also got the launch of the multiplayer game Resident Evil Re:Verse coming up as well this summer. Have you been playing Resident Evil Village? Let us know what you think in the comments!

Hey, I'm Heidi! I've just finished studying a Masters in English Literature, but I've been obsessed with gaming since long before then. I began on the PS2 with Spyro, before graduating to the Xbox 360 and disappearing into Skyrim. I'm now a loyal RPG fan, but I still like to explore other genres — when I'm not playing Assassin's Creed Odyssey, or being lured back into Red Dead Redemption 2 or The Witcher 3!
