Mass Effect Legendary Edition runs at 60fps on PS5 and 120fps on Xbox Series X

BioWare has announced that Mass Effect Legendary Edition will feature both graphics and performance modes on consoles, with the remastered trilogy seemingly playing best on Xbox Series X over PS5.

According to BioWare, the two options can be toggled between at any time during the game. The 'Favor Quality' mode aims for "the highest visual fidelity possible in exchange for a lower target framerate," while 'Favor Framerate' scales down the resolution and reduces some of the more taxing graphical features to achieve "the highest framerate possible."

The PS5 will target 60fps at 4K in quality mode, the same as the Xbox Series X. It's in the performance mode where we see some difference with Microsoft's console supporting up to 120ps at 1440p compared to the PS5 that only manages 60fps at 1440p. It is worth noting here that the PS5 does not support native 1440p output.

If you're still rocking with a previous-gen console, the PS4 Pro is capable of 30fps at 4k in quality mode and up to 60fps at 1440p in performance. On a base PS4, both modes render the game at 1080p, but you'll get 60fps while running in performance mode.

BioWare has already shown off some impressive visual improvements it has made with the remastered trilogy, including improved character models, more detailed environments, and all textures in the game have been enhanced or remade. The Legendary Edition will also include some revamped trophies.

Mass Effect Legendary Edition launches on May 14th.
