Activision has confirmed that this year's Call of Duty game will be developed by Sledgehammer Games and that it's being built with next-generation consoles in mind.

Activision held its first-quarter earnings call last night and told investors that Sledgehammer is leading development on this year's "premium Call of Duty release" and expects the game to launch this fall. Sledgehammer's last full release was 2017's Call of Duty: WWII. Rumours suggest that this new game helmed by the studio will also be set during World War II.

Activision COO Daniel Alegre said during the call that Call of Duty 2021 is being "built for [a] next-generation experience" and that it will feature "stunning visuals across campaign, multiplayer and cooperative modes." Alegre went on to say that this year's release is being "designed to both integrate with and enhance the existing COD ecosystem," which is probably referring to Call of Duty: Warzone.

We can expect to hear more about the new game in the coming months.
