Sony has made a "minority investment" into Discord and plans to bring the social media app to PlayStation consoles next year.

In a blog post, Sony boss Jim Ryan said that teams from both Discord and PlayStation "are already hard at work connecting Discord with your social and gaming experience on PlayStation Network," and is aiming to have the app on PlayStation consoles and mobile from early next year. At the moment, it's unclear what Sony and Discord have in store for users, but it should make party chat and communication with other players a little easier and more fluid.

Recent reports suggested that Microsoft was looking to acquire Discord for $10 billion. However, talks allegedly broke down between the two companies, and Discord reportedly opted to remain independent for the time being.
