PlayStation Gameplay Chart: Avengers smashes back into top 20 following PS5 upgrade

By Luke Albigés,
There's not a whole lot of movement this week's PlayStation Gameplay Chart, although we do see Marvel's Avengers explode back into the fray following the release of its PS5 upgrade. Here is the top 40 PlayStation Gameplay Chart for the week ending March 21st, 2021.

Unsurprisingly, the CoD twins still reign supreme at the top of the chart, although things up there are looking a lot closer than they have in recent weeks. Following to the arrival of a new season, Fortnite is nipping at the heels of Black Ops Cold War and only a few thousand players behind, so it might be nearly time for the battle royale phenomenon to usurp one (or even both, but Modern Warfare is still a good way out in front) of our seemingly unmovable rulers.

The only new entry this week comes in the form of Marvel's Avengers, which hasn't been seen on this rundown since we started it earlier this year. The game finally got its next-gen upgrade last week and it looks like a lot of folks jumped back in to see just how shiny it would be on PS5. It's worth bearing in mind that player count on this one will be artificially inflated to a degree, thanks to the convoluted save transfer system requiring players to start both versions of the game, uploading save data from the PS4 version before downloading it into the PS5 edition. As such, we wouldn't be surprised to see Avengers take a pretty heavy drop next week.

March's PS Plus games hold firm this week, and while it's only Final Fantasy VII Remake and Remnant: From the Ashes left, they both manage to hold on to their top ten spots. Elsewhere, slight boosts to PS5 titles like Astro's Playroom and Demon's Souls (which climbs a little but still stumbles just outside the top 40) as well as PS Plus Collection games such as God of War, Bloodborne, and Persona 5 suggest that a few more people are starting to get their hands on a PlayStation 5 console, and numbers for those games should continue to rise as folks manage to overcome stock shortages and grab the absolute beast of a console.

With a few solid new releases coming in the next few weeks and a potential coup at the top of the chart that could see one of the Call of Duty duo dethroned if Fortnite can keep up its current pace, our next few PlayStation Gameplay Charts should be extremely interesting. Will Balan Wonderworld dance its way onto the list? Can Fortnite force CoD to take the L? Could Oddworld Soulstorm be the next PS Plus title to breach the top 10? We'll find out soon enough...
