Horizon Zero Dawn leads ten free games into Play at Home program

By Luke Albigés,
Sony has announced that it will be adding a bunch more games to its Play at Home initiative, with nine great games joining existing Play at Home freebie Ratchet & Clank next week. From March 25th, you'll be able to download and keep Abzu, Enter the Gungeon, Rez Infinite, The Witness, and Subnautica for PS4, as well as Astro Bot Rescue Mission, Moss, Paper Beast, and Thumper for PlayStation VR. Horizon Zero Dawn is then set to follow in April, taking over from Ratchet as the flagship title of the program.

Sony laid out details for this next step of the program over on the PlayStation Blog earlier today, also revealing an extention for the current Funimation/Wakanim trial offer running as part of the Play at Home scheme. It's worth noting that while Sony lists the VR and non-VR games separately, there's a little bit of crossover here: Thumper, for instance, is also playable outside of VR (although it's the only one of the four that is), while Rez Infinite is entirely playable (and entirely incredible) using PSVR, and the headset really comes into its own in Infinite's new Area X. It's not quite such good news for trophy hunters, mind, as Abzu is the only quick and easy completion of the lot here, and doesn't even have a platinum. Moss, Astro, and Paper Beast should be relatively straightforward, as is The Witness if you're willing to ruin it for yourself with guides, but the rest will likely prove to be quite the investment. Not that we're complaining, mind, as that is one damn fine selection of games if ever we saw one.

All nine games will be free to download and play from next Thursday (March 25th) until April 22nd. Just before the offer ends, on April 19th, Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition will be joining the Play at Home program until May 14th — great news for anyone who never got around to checking out the superb Frozen Wilds DLC. And in even better news, Sony doesn't seem to be done with Play at Home yet. Jim Ryan signs off the blog post with "we'll have more to share soon," so it could be that we've got even more PlayStation freebies to look forward to beyond these. We'll be sure to let you know as soon as we find out more!
