Fall Guys developer snapped up by Epic Games

Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout developer Mediatonic has been acquired by gaming giant Epic Games.

Fall Guys competition

Announcing the deal over on Mediatonic's website, the studio called the acquisition a "huge win for Fall Guys" and that joining Epic Games will "accelerate" its plans to improve the game and bring it to "as many players as possible while continuing to support the community."

The developer has been eyeing up popular features such as account systems, cross-play, and squad vs squad modes from Fortnite and Rocket League, two of Epic's biggest games, and plans to bring some of these to Fall Guys in the future. In terms of the day-to-day of Fall Guys, not much else is changing. Gameplay will remain the same, and Mediatonic plans to bring new content, features, rounds, and costumes to the game each season. Fall Guys will also remain available to purchase from the PlayStation Store and Steam and will be heading to Nintendo Switch and Xbox consoles in the summer.

Does the acquisition mean Fall Guys will adopt the free-to-play model, much like Fortnite and Rocket League? Mediatonic says it has "nothing to announce right now" on that front.
