Bandai Namco acquires minority stake in Tropico developer

By Heidi Nicholas,
Bandai Namco Entertainment has now announced that it has acquired a minority stake in German development studio Limbic Entertainment. The dev studio is known for Tropico 6 and Memories of Mars and will work on two new franchises for Bandai Namco.

Bandai Namco's acquisition of this minority stake furthers its "key priority of creating and owning more IPs." Limbic, which is made up of more than 80 employees, will use its experience to work on two new franchises, and you can see over on the Limbic site that the studio is already hiring for "unannounced Unreal 4 projects."

Stephan Winter, Limbic CEO, says, "there was a natural fit from the moment we first met the BNEE team. This collaboration gives us the support, capabilities, and resources to continue to develop and grow our studio... We are excited for the next chapter of Limbic Entertainment and couldn’t be more thrilled to share the journey with BNEE as we work together on two fantastic new projects.” Arnaud Muller, COO of Bandai Namco, adds of Limbic that: "The seasoned teams have shown their talents in the past on the various titles they have been working on... Limbic Entertainment fits perfectly within the strategy we set out for Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe a few years ago and allows us to keep growing the output of new IP from studios tied to BNEE.”

We don't have any info yet on what Bandai Namco and Limbic have planned, but we'll keep you posted.

Hey, I'm Heidi! I've just finished studying a Masters in English Literature, but I've been obsessed with gaming since long before then. I began on the PS2 with Spyro, before graduating to the Xbox 360 and disappearing into Skyrim. I'm now a loyal RPG fan, but I still like to explore other genres — when I'm not playing Assassin's Creed Odyssey, or being lured back into Red Dead Redemption 2 or The Witcher 3!
