Tarsier Studios to leave behind Little Nightmares and "create new IPs"

Embracer Group, Tarsier Studios' parent company, has announced that Little Nightmares and Little Nightmares II developer Tarsier Studios will move away from the horror franchise to focus on creating new IPs.

Embracer Group made the announcement in its latest earnings report (thanks, IGN). "Tarsier Studios' game Little Nightmares 2 was published [by Bandai Namco] and was well received by its audience. Tarsier Studios will, from now on, focus on creating new IPs."

Embracer CEO Lars Wingefors added during the company's webcast that he was pleased with Tarsier Studios and the success of Little Nightmares II, but said as the IP is owned by Bandai Namco, Tarsier will be moved onto other projects. "It's an IP [Tarsier] created, but it's owned by Bandai Namco and published by Bandai Namco, so it doesn't really have any significant commercial impact for us, even though if it does really well, it could have some royalty revenues over time.

"Now, having that game created, they will move over to create new IPs, and I'm super excited, and that was the main reason we made this acquisition a bit over a year ago."

Although Wingefors doesn't rule out Tarsier Studios from making another Little Nightmares game altogether, it seems that the IP is firmly in Bandai Namco's court. It's possible the publisher could give the franchise to a Bandai Namco-owned studio, or it could put it on ice indefinitely.
