Black Ops Cold War and Warzone Season 2 adds new Outbreak Zombies mode, maps, and more

By Sean Carey,
Activision and Treyarch have released a new gameplay trailer for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Call of Duty: Warzone Season Two, highlighting what's to come with the games' next big updates.

Season Two arrives on February 25th, bringing with it a bunch of free content, including a new Zombies mode called Outbreak, four multiplayer maps, six new weapons, four new operators, multiplayer modes, new Warzone points of interest, and more.

Outbreak is Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War's next Zombies mode. Activision is describing it as "an entirely new, large-scale Zombies experience unlike any other." Outbreak uses Cold War's largest multiplayer maps and has players hunting down enemies using a satellite tracker, escorting a rover that detects dimensional portals, and fighting against an army of zombies to get to the exfiltration site. Treyarch hasn't shared much on the mode, but it says more details will be coming shortly.

On the map front, Black Ops Cold War players will have six new maps to explore. Apocalypse (6v6) is a small-to-medium sized map set in the Lao jungle. Golova (Multi-Team) has you battling it out in a quaint Russian village located in the Ural Plains. Mansion (2v2 and 3v3) is set in Havana at the Hefe Mansion and is a new Gunfight and Face-Off map featuring sprawling courtyards. And finally, Miami Strike (6v6) is a smaller version of the original Miami map but set during the day. Only Apocalypse will be available at the launch of Season Two. Cold War is also getting three new modes, including Gun Game, Stockpile, and a squad-based mode called Hardpoint, where teams are tasked with capturing and defending hills that rotate out every two minutes.

Warzone tanker

In Warzone, the new season brings a fresh loot pool, new weapons, operators, game modes, and two new points of interest.

Exfiltration is Verdansk's newest game mode, which tasks players with locating and holding a portable radio hidden somewhere on the map for a set period of time to win. The player holding the radio is highlighted to all other players on the map, along with a timer that shows how long left until the radio holder wins. Rebirth Island is also getting some love with Rebirth Island Resurgence Extreme, which ups the max player count to 90.

Strange things are afoot in Verdansk. The Vodianoy cargo tanker, which was once docked outside of Rebirth Island, has mysteriously vanished but has been spotted heading directly towards the Port of Verdansk. Activision says, "Operators within the vicinity are recommended to exercise extreme caution, as the ship is carrying unknown cargo, and its crew are not able to be contacted." Beneath the surface of Verdansk, something is heating up too. Activision teases that "something major is beginning to rumble deep underground" and advises operators to explore these areas at their own risk. Hopefully, we'll find out more about what's happening in Warzone in the coming days.

Season Two for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Warzone arrives on February 25th.
