Don't expect Overwatch 2 or Diablo 4 to launch this year

By Sean Carey,
During Activision's most recent earnings call, Activision Blizzard's chief financial officer Dennis Durkin told investors that the company doesn't' expect Overwatch 2 and Diablo IV to launch in 2021.

Overwatch 2

Durkin said that he expects Blizzard's net bookings to grow thanks to momentum provided by World of Warcraft and other initiatives, but confirmed that Blizzard's outlook "does not include Diablo 4 or Overwatch 2 launching in 2021."

Activision Blizzard's president and chief operating officer Daniel Alegre also said during the call that he expects 2022 to be a big year for Blizzard, possibly hinting at a release window for both games, "Our teams are hard at work on Diablo IV, Overwatch 2 and multiple mobile titles. We have further bolstered headcount on key franchises, supporting the team's plans to follow these ambitious titles with compelling content that sustains Blizzard's communities over the long term. The pipeline is progressing really well, and we anticipate that 2022 will be a great year for Blizzard."

Since Overwatch 2 and Diablo IV were revealed at BlizzCon 2019, we haven't really had any substantial news on either game. With any luck, we'll hear more on both games later this month at BlizzCon 2021.
