Apex Legends gets a new Season 8 gameplay trailer & info on the obliterated Kings Canyon

By Heidi Nicholas,
Respawn has shared a gameplay trailer and a whole host of new details on Season 8 of Apex Legends, which arrives next week on February 2nd and brings an obliterated Kings Canyon and a new Legend: Fuse.

We heard more about Fuse's backstory in the Apex Legends Season 8 launch trailer, which explained how Kings Canyon came to be so devastated, but this is the first time we've seen what it will actually look like in Season 8. It's not entirely Fuse's fault, either: when Salvo joined the Mercenary Syndicate and Fuse had the chance to come to the Apex Games, his old friend Maggie turned on him. She arrived in a massive gunship and tried to wipe out Kings Canyon. When Fuse managed to bring her ship down, the mountainside came down with it, opening up a large playable area.

According to Respawn, all the smoke and fuel leakage created a lot of contamination, causing ECHO to move in. Their camps are spread across the map and seem to be pretty useful. The ship itself is meant to be a "King of the Hill power position," but it's bordered by ECHO stations, which provide space and cover for attacking teams to plan their approach. ECHO camps scattered down the river provide bridges, and you can even raise an observation tower in ECHO camps, but you should be careful — you'll get a better view of the area, but you'll also give away your position.

Aside from the new area, the ship's crash site also changed up the map in other ways: Artillery has a back door entrance, and the tunnel that went to Containment "now allows for a rotation from the North as well." Plus, instead of Slum Lakes, we now have Spotted Lakes with ECHO camps, Leviathan bones, and a Filtration Dam. You can also find new Explosive Holds scattered across the map due to the ship's crash. These can be blown open for more weapons, ammo, and attachments.

Along with the new Legend, Season 8 also brings the 30-30 Repeater rifle, a new Mayhem Battle Pass, and Gold Magazines, which automatically reload holstered weapons. Season 8 arrives on February 2nd.

Hey, I'm Heidi! I've just finished studying a Masters in English Literature, but I've been obsessed with gaming since long before then. I began on the PS2 with Spyro, before graduating to the Xbox 360 and disappearing into Skyrim. I'm now a loyal RPG fan, but I still like to explore other genres — when I'm not playing Assassin's Creed Odyssey, or being lured back into Red Dead Redemption 2 or The Witcher 3!
