Black Ops Cold War was the most-downloaded PS5 game from the PS Store in 2020

By Sean Carey,
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War was the most-downloaded PS5 games from the PlayStation Store throughout 2020, according to new tables released by Sony. The latest Call of Duty not only managed to top the most-downloaded PS5 charts for both US/Canada and Europe, but it was also the most-downloaded PS4 game in the US/Canada too.

Standing US/Canada Europe
1 Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War
2 Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales
3 Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
4 NBA 2K21 Next Generation FIFA 21
5 Demon’s Souls Demon’s Souls
6 Madden NFL 21 Watch Dogs: Legion
7 FIFA 21 Immortals Fenyx Rising
8 Sackboy: A Big Adventure NBA 2K21 Next Generation
9 Immortals Fenyx Rising Sackboy: A Big Adventure
10 Watch Dogs: Legion Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege
Looking at the table, there isn't too much variation between the two regions. The top three: Black Ops Cold War, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and Assassin's Creed Valhalla is the same for both, but things start to differ slightly once we get to the middle of the table with sports titles making up the majority of differences. FIFA games always tend to do better in Europe, while NBA 2K and Madden titles will always sell more copies in the US, which is why we see FIFA 21 taking up fourth in Europe and seventh in US/Canada and NBA 2K21 and Madden NFL 21 doing better in the US/Canada.

For PS4 games, Black Ops Cold War tops the US/Canada chart, but FIFA 21 takes home the gold in Europe, followed by last year's FIFA 20. Surprisingly, Grand Theft Auto V, a seven-year-old game at this point, is the second most-downloaded game in the US/Canada and fourth in Europe. Another surprise is The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt coming in at ninth in Europe — those Europeans sure do love Geralt.

It's unsurprising to see Call of Duty: Warzone as the most-downloaded free game from the PS Store in 2020. It offers a unique spin on the already popular battle royale genre with its Gulag mechanic, up to 150 players in a match, and some of that glorious Call of Duty gunplay that everyone knows and loves. All of that for the grand price of absolutely nothing is hard to turn down.

The most-downloaded PS VR game was Beat Saber in both regions. You can view that table here.

There you have it. These are the most-downloaded games from the PlayStation Store for 2020. What do you make of the rankings? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Hey, I’m Sean! I joined both TrueAchievements and TrueTrophies as a staff writer in 2019. I’m a big fan of the Metal Gear Solid series and love a good narrative adventure. Most evenings you’ll find me failing to get a win in Call of Duty: Warzone.
