Lucasfilm Games has announced it's partnered with Ubisoft to create a new story-driven open-world Star Wars game. This news means that EA's exclusivity deal for Star Wars IP has now finished.

An article from Wired says that Massive Entertainment, who developed The Division and The Division 2, will be leading the charge. Julian Gerighty, director of both Division games, is creative director on the project. Details are a little light at this stage due to the game being in very early development, but one thing we do know is that Massive Entertainment will be using its own Snowdrop game engine for the title.

Wired asked Lucasfilm why EA's exclusivity deal had come to an end and was told that EA will "continue to be a very strategic and important partner for us now and going forward, but we did feel like there's room for others." In a post over on the Star Wars website, Lucasfilm Games VP Douglas Reilly confirmed that more Star Wars games from EA are in the works, "We’re really proud of the games we have created with EA. We will continue working with them, and our relationship has never been stronger. While we may not have a lot of details to share at the moment, we’ve got a number of projects underway with the talented teams at EA."

Just yesterday, Lucasfilm Games announced it was partnering with Bethesda on a new Indiana Jones title. The Game is being developed by Machine Games with Todd Howard in the executive producer role.
