Action-RPG Biomutant is still slated to launch in 2021

By Heidi Nicholas,
Biomutant, which has been described as a "post-apocalyptic kung-fu fable," was announced back in 2017, and looks like an awesome mash-up of genres wrapped up in an action-RPG. Yet we haven't heard too much about the game recently, and the lack of news over the last few years or so led fans to worry it had been cancelled. Luckily, according to publisher THQ Nordic, Biomutant is still slated for release in 2021.

THQ Nordic CEO Klemens Kreuzer spoke to and mentioned Biomutant as "a release of great importance." The publisher also clarified that the game isn't specifically slated for Q1 2021, as was previously thought, but for 2021 overall.

Major news about Biomutant has been few and far between, although we did find out a few interesting bits last year. New gameplay footage and new features were revealed, telling us more about character creation, stats, equipment, gear, and a little about the game's story, while the devs confirmed early in 2021 that Biomutant is in the "final stages" of development. This was echoed by Lars Wingefors, the CEO of Embracer Group — which is the parent company to THQ Nordic — who appeared in a company meeting to say that the devs are ambitious to "offer a lot of replayability" and that they are "in the final completion of the game."

We'll let you know when we hear more about Biomutant.

Hey, I'm Heidi! I've just finished studying a Masters in English Literature, but I've been obsessed with gaming since long before then. I began on the PS2 with Spyro, before graduating to the Xbox 360 and disappearing into Skyrim. I'm now a loyal RPG fan, but I still like to explore other genres — when I'm not playing Assassin's Creed Odyssey, or being lured back into Red Dead Redemption 2 or The Witcher 3!
