Shadow of Mordor server shutdown delayed, online trophies may still unlock after closure

By Sean Carey,
Servers for Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor - Game of the Year Edition were due to close at the end of last month, but according to developer Monolith, the server closure has now been delayed. Monolith also says that trophies previously thought to be discontinued after the closure may still be unlockable.

In the Monolith discord, a developer by the username of Monolith_Mark stated, "To all achievement hunters. The server shutdown was pushed out to mid-January. I don't have any more information at the moment, in case you were wondering. And yes, I'm still very optimistic (but not 100% certain until verified) that the online achievements discussed earlier will still be achievable." According to a mod in the Discord server, this also applies to PlayStation Trophies.

When the server closure was announced, WB Games said that the Repaid in Blood trophy from both games would be the only trophy to be discontinued, but confusion arose when WB Games support told a player that the Lord of the Ring and The Hunt is my Mistress trophies would also be discontinued. According to Monolith_Mark, the developers are looking at putting a workaround in place for Repaid in Blood and are investigating the other two trophies to see if they'll unlock after the server closure.

A new date for the server closure hasn't been provided, and while Monolith seems optimistic that the trophies will all unlock after the server shutdown, there's still a chance they might be discontinued. If you still haven't unlocked these trophies, you have a bit of extra time to do so.

Once we find out the new date of the server closure and more on the potentially affected trophies, we'll update you.
