TrueTrophies Game of the Year 2020 results

We've had our say — now it's time for yours! Following yesterday's rundown of 2020's best PlayStation games according to the TT news team, we've now finished collating the results of your votes for the TT community Game of the Year 2020. Let's jump straight into it with the big one, shall we?

Game of the Year

Running away with the lead with 13.8% of all votes, Sucker Punch's beautiful open world adventure Ghost of Tsushima is your TrueTrophies Game of the Year 2020. You'll recall that we asked you to vote for five games in order of preference here and amazingly, Ghost of Tsushima managed to pull in the most picks in the first, second, third, and fourth place slots, giving it an undisputed win. The Last of Us Part II and Final Fantasy VII Remake landed the second and third place spots, with 10.5% and 9.7% of the vote respectively. Interestingly, eight of the top ten games are PlayStation console exclusives (compared to just four of the top ten being Xbox console exclusives over in the TrueAchievements GOTY poll). And similarly, neither Cyberpunk 2077 nor Doom Eternal made the top ten in your votes here, whereas those two games fared significantly better over on TA. Shoutout to Immortals: Fenyx Rising too, which just managed to squeak into the top 20 without a single person giving it their first choice vote!

The full top ten shares seven games with our team's list but just one (Demon's Souls) in the same position. Our three other choices — Spelunky 2, Genshin Impact, and Dreams — didn't even make your top 20! Here's that top ten in full:

PSVR Game of the Year

2020 was a pretty quiet year on the VR front, so it should come as no surprise that Star Wars: Squadrons absolutely walked this category. The solid space shooter picked up a ludicrous 86.5% of all votes, and with the second place game pulling in just 8%, it's fair to say that this wasn't even a contest. Overall, Squadrons barely made the top 25, but it was a shoo-in for this category.

Best DLC of the Year

Another category that saw Ghost of Tsushima and The Last of Us Part II battle it out for the top spot, and once again, Tsushima came out on top in your vote. The free Legends expansion added co-op multiplayer to the game, significantly improving its longevity and offering new ways to play in Tsushima's gorgeous world.

Your Proudest Trophy of the Year

All three of the top trophies in this category ended up being platinums and once again, it was a Sucker Punch versus Naughty Dog showdown for first place. Once again, Ghost of Tsushima came through with the W, scoring almost twice as many votes as The Last of Us Part II's platinum trophy. Third place went to the Astro's Playroom plat, with a little over half as many votes again, so this podium was pretty clear cut.

Most Original Trophy of the Year

Two Fall Guys trophies made the top three in this one, but it was Fall Bae out in front with a pretty clear lead. In a game like this where it's winner takes all, putting in a trophy for making time to hug it out with one of your rivals was an inspired move. Surprising nobody, a Ghost of Tsushima trophy (one which will come up shortly, actually) rounded out the top three.

Most Enjoyable Trophy of the Year

Not content with bronze in the earlier category, Astro's Playroom soared to victory in terms of pure fun, and we couldn't agree more. With so many of the trophies rewarding playful exploration and encouraging creative play, it'd be unfair to just pick one, so the plat feels like a fair winner here. Astro managed to knock Tsushima's plat — the trophy that defeated it last time — into second place here. Justice!

Best Trophy Name of the Year

Having been pipped by Fall Guys to being declared most original, it's only fair that Ghost of Tsushima's 'Cooper Clan Cosplayer' — awarded for assembling a full outfit that pays homage to Sucker Punch's classic Sly Cooper games — should win something. Only just below it, we saw a dead heat for second place between puns and memes, with THPS1+2's 'Donut Mess With a Cop' and Astro's Playroom's 'Jason!' sharing the honours.

Best TT Community Event of the Year

With over a third of the total votes, 12 Days of Christmas ran away with this one. Consisting of a dozen unique tasks that make you attack your game collection in a whole new way, this event is always a popular one. If you enjoyed it, you're going to love some of the awesome stuff we have lined up for you this year...

Most Anticipated Game of 2021

Even though Ragnarok isn't even confirmed to be its title, the next God of War stormed to victory in this category with almost a quarter of all votes thrown in Kratos' direction. Horizon Forbidden West managed to pip Mass Effect Legendary Edition to second, although Aloy's next adventure could only muster half as much support as Ragnarok.
