Assassin's Creed Valhalla and Watch Dogs: Legion PS5 upgrade issue being investigated

By Sean Carey,
Assassin's Creed Valhalla and Watch Dogs: Legion both offer free PS5 upgrades, but for a large number of players, the feature isn't working as intended, and some are stuck with PS4 versions of the games.

According to players reporting the problem over in Ubisoft's support forum, the issue seems to be only impacting European users who own physical Blu-ray discs. At the moment it's currently unclear why the free upgrade isn't being offered for both games, but some believe the European PlayStation Store, with its various regions, platforms, and different versions of the games, is at fault. Those who have purchased digital versions from the PlayStation Store remain unaffected.

Ubisoft has acknowledged the non-existent PS4-to-PS5 upgrades and says it's being looked into. In the meantime, Ubisoft has shared with Eurogamer a list of instructions to try in order to get the PS5 upgrade. Here's what Ubisoft suggests:
  • Insert the eligible PS4 game disc.
  • Go to the game hub for the PS4 game. Users must select "VIEW PRODUCT"
  • Select the upgrade offer on the game hub and review the upgrade offer.
  • Select Download (or purchase with the discount price) to download/purchase content.
  • After the download is complete, you can play the PS5 digital game by inserting the PS4 game disc. You will need to keep the disc inserted each time to play the game.
