PS5's first system update is available to download now

By Sean Carey,
Sony has now rolled out the PS5's first post-launch system update worldwide. Those who already have their consoles can download the update now.

When the PS5 launches in a couple of days in Europe and other territories, this update will be the first you'll need to download after setting up your new console. The update is 868MB and brings the software up to version 20.02-02.25.00. With the PlayStation 4, Sony was known for including some pretty basic patch notes for its system updates, and it looks like that tradition will be continuing with the PS5. A solitary patch note for the update is listed on the PlayStation website that reads, "This system software update improves system performance." It's a patch note many PlayStation fans have seen before, and will probably see a lot going forward.

Other than the single patch note, it's unclear what the update changes. There have been various reports of bugs and other issues ranging in severity over the past week. One of the more notable issues players have been running into was a download queue bug that required a factory reset to fix. Hopefully, this new update eliminates some of those problems.
