Deathloop's May 2021 release date confirmed with new trailer

By Heidi Nicholas,
We now have a confirmed release date of May 21st, 2021 for Deathloop, the first person shooter which traps you in a time-loop. Microsoft is in the process of acquiring Zenimax Studios, the parent company to Bethesda, but Deathloop will still be a timed PS5 exclusive for a year when it launches next May. It will also be available on PC.

Deathloop was originally planned to launch in the holiday period of this year, but was delayed into 2021 just a few months ago due to the complications of working from home during the COVID-19 pandemic. It's a first person shooter with an interesting premise: you play as Colt, an assassin who wants to break the time-loop on Blackreef island.

To do this, you have to find and eliminate the eight targets responsible for keeping the loop going. The problem is, the time-loop allows for a never-ending party that no one else wants to stop. Plus, your eight targets are spread out across the island, meaning you have to study their schedules to make sure you'll reach them all in time. And, to complicate matters even further, there's another assassin in the loop. Julianna Blake is determined to protect the loop and will be hunting down Colt even as Colt looks for those other targets. Julianna will be another playable character. Colt can use his hacking devices to help him, while Julianna can apparently take on the appearance of any one NPC — all of whom are on her side.

Deathloop will launch for PS5 on May 21st, 2021.

Hey, I'm Heidi! I've just finished studying a Masters in English Literature, but I've been obsessed with gaming since long before then. I began on the PS2 with Spyro, before graduating to the Xbox 360 and disappearing into Skyrim. I'm now a loyal RPG fan, but I still like to explore other genres — when I'm not playing Assassin's Creed Odyssey, or being lured back into Red Dead Redemption 2 or The Witcher 3!
