Mass Effect Legendary Edition coming in 2021, new Mass Effect game also in the works

By Sean Carey,
On N7 Day, BioWare finally announced the long-rumoured Mass Effect Legendary Edition — a remastered version of the Mass Effect Trilogy coming in spring 2021.

BioWare's GM Casey Hudson revealed the news in a blog post over on the BioWare website."For many months now, our team at BioWare has been hard at work, updating the textures, shaders, models, effects, and technical features of three enormous games." According to Hudson, the Legendary Edition is not a remake or a reimagining of the original games, but the idea behind it was to modernise the experience "so that fans and new players can experience the original work in its best possible form."

The Mass Effect Legendary Edition includes single-player base content, and DLC from the first three Mass Effect titles, plus all promo-weapons, armours, and packs. On the visual front, BioWare says the game has been remastered and fully-optimised for 4K Ultra HD.

BioWare also confirmed that a new Mass Effect game is in the works. Although Hudson can't share much as the game is still in early development, he says that a "veteran team" is currently working on the next chapter of the Mass Effect Universe.

The Mass Effect Legendary Edition launches in spring 2021 and is coming to PS4, Xbox One, PC, and offering targeted enhancements on Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5.
