Sony debuts the official PS5 global launch advert

By Heidi Nicholas,
Sony has now unveiled the global launch advert for the PS5, which "celebrates the human desire to push boundaries and achieve the extraordinary."

Eric Lempel, senior VP of PlayStation Worldwide Marketing at SIE, took to the PlayStation Blog to say, "for launch, our goal has always been to create a spot that feels epic and iconic; a spot that truly celebrates our desire to push the boundaries of what is possible and evokes the excitement that you will have through the unique experiences made possible with PlayStation 5." Lempel explains that the ad focuses on the theme of exploration. The advert shows astronauts and rockets, as well as deep-sea divers exploring the depths of the ocean. "There is a desire in all of us to explore and discover new possibilities, whether it’s in gaming, or in our everyday lives. We all want to go to places we’ve never been, see what’s never been seen. We tell the story by paying homage to explorers of the past who stood on the threshold of the unknown and pushed past their limits to achieve the extraordinary." Sony recently announced that Travis Scott was a new strategic creative partner for PlayStation, and it's Scott's voice narrating this launch advert.

These adverts for next-gen consoles are pretty awe-inspiring, even if you do only see the console itself for a split second. It's now just over two weeks until the PS5 launches on November 12th in the US, Japan, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea, and just over three weeks until it launches on 19th November in the UK and the rest of the world. Pre-orders for the PS5 have already gone through the roof — Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan recently announced that PS5 pre-orders matched the first three months of PS4 sales in just 12 hours.

Hey, I'm Heidi! I've just finished studying a Masters in English Literature, but I've been obsessed with gaming since long before then. I began on the PS2 with Spyro, before graduating to the Xbox 360 and disappearing into Skyrim. I'm now a loyal RPG fan, but I still like to explore other genres — when I'm not playing Assassin's Creed Odyssey, or being lured back into Red Dead Redemption 2 or The Witcher 3!
