PS5 is backwards compatible with nearly all PS4 games

By Sean Carey,
Sony has now confirmed which PS4 games will be backwards compatible on the PS5. According to a PlayStation Support post, the "overwhelming majority of the 4,000+ PS4 games" will be playable on the PS5.

However, there are a few casualties that will not be making the jump over the PS5. A total of 10 games will remain as compatible with PS4 only. The full list of "PS4 only games" are as follows:

  • DWVR
  • Afro Samurai 2 Revenge of Kuma Volume One
  • TT Isle of Man - Ride on the Edge 2
  • Just Deal With It!
  • Shadow Complex Remastered
  • Robinson: The Journey
  • We Sing
  • Hitman Go: Definitive Edition
  • Shadwen
  • Joe's Diner
Sorry, Joe's Diner fans, it's a sad day for you, indeed. In all fairness, the list isn't bad at all, with Hitman Go: Definitive Edition being the only game from a significant franchise not getting the backwards compatibility treatment.

Sony also notes that some functionalities from PS4 titles may not be available on the PS5 and "some PS4 games may exhibit errors or unexpected behaviour when played on PS5 consoles." However, select PS4 titles will benefit from the PS5's Game Boost feature, which will see PS4 games get a bump in performance and smoother frame rates.

Recently, Sony provided a teardown video of the PlayStation 5 which gave us a better look at the console's internals.
