PS5 3D audio will only work with headphones at launch By Sean Carey, 07 Oct 2020 CommentsSony has revealed more information about the PS5's 3D audio feature and says it will only be compatible with headphones at launch. TV virtual surround sound will be coming at a later date. Previously, Sony has spoken about how the PS5's Tempest 3D AudioTech will change the way we hear games. It will supposedly bring deeper levels of immersion, with PS5 lead system architect Mark Cerny saying that players will be able to hear individual raindrops falling around them. Now, over on PlayStation Blog, Sony has detailed that 3D audio will only be available with headphones at launch. "On the PS5, you’ll be able to experience 3D Audio with the headphones that many of you already own, either through a USB connection to the console or by plugging your headphones into the DualSense wireless controller’s 3.5mm headset jack." Virtual surround sound for TV speakers is currently being developed and is expected to come sometime after launch. The blog post also points out a list of games that will make use of the PS5's Tempest 3D audio feature. Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, Astro’s Playroom, Gran Turismo 7, Returnal, Destruction AllStars, Demon’s Souls, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Sackboy: A Big Adventure, Horizon Forbidden West, Resident Evil Village, and more will all be compatible with 3D Audio. The PlayStation 5 launches on November 12th or November 19th depending on your region.PlayStation 5 Written by Sean CareyHey, I’m Sean!
