Sony shares more details on Ghost of Tsushima: Legends and New Game+

By Heidi Nicholas,
The only thing that could maybe make Ghost of Tsushima better is more Ghost of Tsushima. Luckily, the free update arriving next week gives us just that. Version 1.1 arrives on October 16th, adding more to this excellent game with the new Ghost of Tsushima: Legends multiplayer mode, New Game+ for the single-player campaign, a new merchant with new armour dyes, a new horse, new Charms, armour loadouts, and a whole lot more, including the option to see your total play time, and new Trophies.

This upcoming update really is a chunky one. First up: the single-player campaign updates. According to Sony, New Game+ will plop you, complete with your Techniques, Gear, and Vanity items, into the open world after Jin's "initial confrontation" with the Khan. The difficulty will also be raised, although this can be readjusted. New Game + gives you a beautiful new black horse with a red mane and tail and a new saddle, along with the lure of new Charms and a new upgrade for your sword, bow, and armour. There is quite a bit of New Game+ content, including a new type of Ghost Flower, to be traded to a new merchant in Ariake for new armour dyes and vanity gear "featuring much more elaborate designs than those found in your first playthrough." There's also — drumroll please — new trophies to unlock for playing New Game+, which will come under their own section of the trophy list.

Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, meanwhile, is a whole new online co-op mode inspired by Japanese mythology. Like the rest of Version 1.1, Legends arrives for free, although you will need PS Plus to play it. It adds story missions for two players and survival missions for four, as well as a four-player, three-part post-launch raid. You can access the Legends lobby through the title and pause menus or by accepting a PSN invitation, which might be quicker and easier, but for full immersion you can also access it by talking to the new in-game character, Gyozen the Storyteller, who will be "happy to share one of his transportative stories."

As we'd heard before when Legends was announced earlier this year, there are four classes: Hunter, Samurai, Ronin, and Assassin. You'll pick which to unlock first after your tutorial, and can then unlock the rest. Legends brings new cosmetics, and while these look awesome, "gameplay progression really centres around the gear you've equipped and the techniques you've unlocked." Legends has a Photo Mode, too, so you can properly admire your new stuff. Lastly but definitely not least, Legends will also have new Trophies.

Version 1.1 arrives on October 16th.

Hey, I'm Heidi! I've just finished studying a Masters in English Literature, but I've been obsessed with gaming since long before then. I began on the PS2 with Spyro, before graduating to the Xbox 360 and disappearing into Skyrim. I'm now a loyal RPG fan, but I still like to explore other genres — when I'm not playing Assassin's Creed Odyssey, or being lured back into Red Dead Redemption 2 or The Witcher 3!
