The UK Government wants your opinions on loot boxes

By Sean Carey,
The UK Government has announced a call for evidence on the impact of loot boxes in video games. This online survey will examine concerns that the monetisation method may encourage people to gamble. The survey is open now for you to have your say.

Loot Boxes Uk gambling

The call for evidence is open to both the public and video game companies, with the Government seeking both negative and positive experiences surrounding loot boxes. A press release from the Government reads that the survey will "seek the experiences of players and their parents or guardians as well as rigorous, high-quality data and research from video games companies, academia, civil society as well as any other organisations with an interest in this issue."

The Government says it "stands ready to take action" if the outcome of the call for evidence supports taking a new approach regarding loot boxes. If the findings are strong enough, the Government says, "Loot boxes will be considered alongside a review of the Gambling Act."

If you wish to have your say on loot boxes, you can read more about the call for evidence andfill out the survey here. Submissions will close on November 22nd.
