Godfall's latest trailer shows what combat will be like in this "first-of-its-kind" game

By Heidi Nicholas,
Godfall grabbed attention when it was the first PS5 game to be officially unveiled at the Game Awards last year. The devs describe it as the "first-of-its-kind" looter-slasher melee-action-RPG — if that sounds like a lot to squidge into one game, even a next-gen PS5 exclusive, take a look at latest trailer, which gives a glimpse of what combat will be like.

We've been given a few in-depth looks at Godfall. Just last month, we had almost nine minutes of in-development footage on a PS5 dev kit, which showed off the game's world and weapon classes, and of course, combat. Combat will naturally play a large part in this looter-slasher: you're "the last of the Valorian knights, god-like warriors able to equip Valorplates, legendary armor sets that transform wielders into unstoppable masters of melee combat." The game's high-fantasy setting, the world of Aperion, is "on the precipice of ruin." It's split into elemental realms for earth, water, air, fire, and spirit, and you'll be charging through these on your way to challenge "mad god" Marcus.

Godfall can be played solo, or with online co-op for up to two extra players. There's five weapon classes for long-sword, dual blades, pole-arm, two-handed war-hammer, and two-handed great-sword, and you'll also be able to use a shield, although from what we've been shown so far, it definitely looks like Godfall favours an offensive approach.

Godfall launches Holiday 2020. What do you think so far? Will you be playing it later this year? Let us know in the comments!

Hey, I'm Heidi! I've just finished studying a Masters in English Literature, but I've been obsessed with gaming since long before then. I began on the PS2 with Spyro, before graduating to the Xbox 360 and disappearing into Skyrim. I'm now a loyal RPG fan, but I still like to explore other genres — when I'm not playing Assassin's Creed Odyssey, or being lured back into Red Dead Redemption 2 or The Witcher 3!
