Kena: Bridge of Spirits delayed until Q1 2021

By Heidi Nicholas,
Ember Lab, the developers behind Kena: Bridge of Spirits, have announced their decision to delay the PS5 exclusive into Q1 2021 due to the challenges of 2020. They say this should give them time to "give the game the polish it deserves."

In an Ember Lab tweet, the developers say they're "overwhelmed and humbled by the positive response and outpouring of support for Kena: Bridge of Spirits," but that "this year has brought many challenges and our transition to working from home has caused development to move slower than we hoped. For this reason, we have made the difficult decision to delay the release of Kena: Bridge of Spirits to Q1, 2021."

Kena: Bridge of Spirits

They'll be sharing more "in the coming months." Kena: Bridge of Spirits is an action game with a strong narrative focus. You protect adorable fluffy spirits who are, less adorably, called the Rot. According to the game's site, Kena is a Spirit Guide aiming to help the trapped and forgotten Rot and to investigate an abandoned village. From the description, it sounds as though you'll be able to take the Rot everywhere with you, as you have to "find and collect Rot to gain powerful abilities, make discoveries, and transform the environment" — in the trailer above, we see flowers and greenery sprouting up in a clearing which had been faded and empty. The entire world is cursed, with corrupt spirits filling the realm, and it looks as though the Rot, your "tiny spirit companions," will help you in combat too.

There's no specific release date yet, but we can expect Kena: Bridge of Spirits sometime in early 2021.

Hey, I'm Heidi! I've just finished studying a Masters in English Literature, but I've been obsessed with gaming since long before then. I began on the PS2 with Spyro, before graduating to the Xbox 360 and disappearing into Skyrim. I'm now a loyal RPG fan, but I still like to explore other genres — when I'm not playing Assassin's Creed Odyssey, or being lured back into Red Dead Redemption 2 or The Witcher 3!
