Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart getting extended gameplay demo this week

By Heidi Nicholas,
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart will get a PS5 demo during Thursday's Gamescom Opening Night Live event, with host Geoff Keighley confirming it'll be a "full, longer, uncut demo" than the gameplay we've already seen.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart was only announced a few months ago, with an impressive trailer showcasing the power of the PS5's SSD as Ratchet jumps seamlessly between brightly-coloured, hugely contrasting dimensions. Creative director Marcus Smith followed this up with a comment that the game "would not have been possible" on previous generations without the PS5's "screamingly fast" SSD, which enables Insomniac to "build words and project players from one place to another in near-instantaneous speeds... Long-gone are loading screens."

The trailer was visually stunning, leaving us longing to pick up a controller and try out that rift-jumping for ourselves, but we don't yet have much information about the game itself, nor a release window for when we might expect it. We know an arch-nemesis is the one to cause these rifts after "damaging the fabric of space time," and that we'll also get the chance to play as a new female Lombax, but it seems we'll have to wait until Thursday to learn more. Either way, it'll be good to learn more about what Ratchet and Clank will be up to when Rift Apart launches.

Hey, I'm Heidi! I've just finished studying a Masters in English Literature, but I've been obsessed with gaming since long before then. I began on the PS2 with Spyro, before graduating to the Xbox 360 and disappearing into Skyrim. I'm now a loyal RPG fan, but I still like to explore other genres — when I'm not playing Assassin's Creed Odyssey, or being lured back into Red Dead Redemption 2 or The Witcher 3!
