Monster Hunter World: Iceborne event triple bill begins today

By Luke Albigés,
Monster Hunter World's events are a great time to dive back into the game whether you've got the Iceborne expansion or not, so here's some good news: Capcom has three such two-week 'Fests' lined up in a row starting today, and there's a ton of exclusive stuff up for grabs in each.

Granted, they're all repeats of previous events, so hunting fanatics will likely have all the unique unlocks already. But if you missed any, here's your chance to make up for lost time and fill up your wardrobe.

Event Quests

First up is the Holiday Joy Fest, which starts today and runs through September 3rd. The main currency for this event is Joyful Tickets: you'll get a few as part of your login bonus every day, and can earn more by completing special Bounties. There are also special versions called VIP Joyful Tickets, which are only earned by completing daily Limited Bounties and (rarely) from helping out fellow hunters in need. You need a bunch of both kinds if you want everything, but the first thing you'll want to do is to round up enough Joyful Tickets to craft the Oolong armour set at the smithy. The likelihood of earning VIP tickets is increased while wearing this snazzy set, but the armour skills won't be nearly as good as on your 'proper' sets — bear that in mind and choose your hunts accordingly.

You need a handful more of the basic tickets to get the Shishi-mai Palico armour and the Lucky Crimson Tiger weapon charm, but everything else is unlocked with VIP Joyful Tickets so you'll need to work for most of these. There's a Layered version of the armour set for all my fellow Fashion Hunters out there, as well as six more varieties of Lucky Tiger charm (Peach, Green, Violet, Sky Blue, Dark Green, and Orange) and some decorations for your room. That's it for the tickets, but there's still one more set of stuff to grab — all you need to do is pop into the Gathering Hub during the event to score yourself a Poogie costume, some Guild Card bits and bobs, and some extra furniture for your place.

That should cover all the stuff unique to the Holiday Joy Fest, but don't forget about the other cool aspect of these special events: while they're happening, you have access to every timed Event Quest in the game! Some offer rare rewards and others give you larger or smaller versions of monsters (handy for the crown-related Trophies) or rare critters to catch for those one-off Trophies. Be sure to work through these, but you can take your time, really — with three events in a row, you've got well over a month to smash out as many Event Quests as you like. We'll be back with more on the Grand Appreciation Fest and the Full Bloom Fest once those kick off, but in the meantime, happy hunting!
