PlayStation 5's first global advert welcomes players to a "new world of immersion"

By Sean Carey,
Sony has released its first advert for the PlayStation 5 ahead of the next-gen console's launch this Holiday season. Sony's vice president of global marketing Mary Yee described the commercial as the "first global digital ad for the PS5 console" and allows viewers to "see the new console's features come to life through a young woman's eyes and her movements."

The short live-action video is all about immersion, highlighting the DualSense controllers' haptic feedback, adaptive triggers and the PS5 console's 3D audio. In a PlayStation.Blog post accompanying the trailer, developers have shared how they are utilising the DualSense controller in their upcoming games.

Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales creative director Brian Horton says that players will be able to feel which direction attacks are coming from thanks to the controller's haptic feedback. Because of the haptics system inside of the Dualsense, his team can "really push the dimensionality of the feedback. For instance, as you hold down Square to do a Venom Punch, you feel Spider-Man's bio-electricity crackle across from the left side of the controller, culminating in the right side on impact."

Speaking about the DualSense's adaptive triggers, Horizon Forbidden West game director Mathijs de Jonge says, "Horizon Forbidden West features new weapons that are designed to feel unique and play a specific role in combat with machines and human opponents. The DualSense wireless controller adaptive triggers will help us to make the weapons feel even more unique and satisfying to use."

The PlayStation 5 launches this Holiday.
