Ghost of Tsushima is getting a free co-op multiplayer mode later this year By Heidi Nicholas, 17 Aug 2020 CommentsGhost of Tsushima: Legends is a new online co-op multiplayer mode arriving for free to Ghost of Tsushima players in fall later this year. It'll feature two-player story missions and four-player survival missions, with a four-player raid arriving after Legends launches. So, to dive into this: it's designed as a co-op gameplay experience for two to four players, to be played with friends or through online matchmaking. It'll be a free download for all Ghost of Tsushima players, but you'll need an active PS Plus membership to use the online multiplayer. Ghost of Tsushima: Legends doesn't focus on Jin or any of his companions; it's about four warriors of Legend, who senior game designer Darren Bridges says "have been built up as legends in stories told by the people of Tsushima." It sounds as though these could be similar to the characters we've explored in the main game's Mythic Tales. Two players can play through the co-op story missions, while four players can team up for survival missions. You can choose to play as a Samurai, Hunter, Ronin, or Assassin, and each of these character classes will have its own abilities. Sucker Punch says these story and survival missions should prepare you for the four-player raid which will arrive after the launch of Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, and send you "and your partners to an entirely new realm to challenge a brutal, terrifying enemy." While Ghost of Tsushima does touch upon myths and legends, it's focused on the realistic aspects of Jin's life. It seems that Ghost of Tsushima: Legends allowed the devs more leeway; it's "haunting and fantastical" and inspired by Japanese folk tales and mythology. The story missions, for instance, will apparently build on the combat of the single-player campaign but will add "new magical twists," while the survival missions will set you up against new supernatural Oni enemies. Sucker Punch says, "it’s been so rewarding to see the amazing reactions from all of you as you play through Ghost of Tsushima... We’re happy to offer this mode completely free to Ghost of Tsushima owners as a thank you to our players." It'll share more about the mode as fall approaches, and we'll be sure to keep you up to date. What do you think of Ghost of Tsushima: Legends? I've just finished studying a Masters in English Literature, but I've been obsessed with gaming since long before then. I began on the PS2 with Spyro, before graduating to the Xbox 360 and disappearing into Skyrim. I'm now a loyal RPG fan, but I still like to explore other genres — when I'm not playing Assassin's Creed Odyssey, or being lured back into Red Dead Redemption 2 or The Witcher 3!
