Crystal Dynamics confirms Hawkeye as the first post-launch hero for Marvel's Avengers By Heidi Nicholas, 31 Jul 2020 CommentsThe second War Table stream for Marvel's Avengers covered a lot of content, including what's to come in the game's beta in August, and the fact that Hawkeye will be the first post-launch hero to arrive for the game.First up, the stream covered the content to be included in August's beta — and it's a lot. Crystal Dynamics had already said the beta would include a mix of everything, and from what the stream showed, there'll be more than enough to play through. Starting with the Golden Bridge sequence — itself offering around 25 minutes of gameplay — the beta will give players an intro to the heroes, combat, and traversal aspects of the game, as well as combos, heroics, and a Taskmaster boss battle. You'll then head into hero missions — including a Hulk hero mission — and explore a mix of wide open spaces and underground facilities, before being plonked into an Abomination boss battle. Once you're done with the single-player story content, you can choose from four heroes — Hulk, Kamala, Iron Man and Black Widow — and try out four-player co-op in War Zones and Drop Zones. The beta will also show off a look at HARM rooms, where you head into a virtual training simulator and see how you cope against waves of enemies. The beta offers over 20 single-player and co-op missions, including five War Zones, and access to one of the three starting skill pages for each hero (with the other pages to be saved for the full game). Although this beta will be pretty massive, the devs reminded us how much bigger the main game will be, with over 80 War Zones, over 50 enemies, six heroes, and ever-expanding content. The devs have been very communicative about what the game's post-launch timeline will look like, and what sort of new content will be added. Hawkeye will be the first post-launch hero, and his story missions will be playable either in co-op or solo. At launch, the game will revolve around Kamala's quest to reassemble the Avengers. After that, it'll transition into the full Avengers Initiative phase with more heroes, missions, and regions to be added. For PS4 players, the pre-order beta begins a week early, on August 7th. The PlayStation open beta then begins on August 14th. Marvel's Avengers releases as the full game on September 4th. We've got the full list of Marvel's Avengers pre-orders and editions, and, although the trophy list hasn't yet appeared, we do have the Marvel's Avengers achievement list if you'd like to check that out.PlayStation 4 Written by Heidi NicholasHey, I'm Heidi! I've just finished studying a Masters in English Literature, but I've been obsessed with gaming since long before then. I began on the PS2 with Spyro, before graduating to the Xbox 360 and disappearing into Skyrim. I'm now a loyal RPG fan, but I still like to explore other genres — when I'm not playing Assassin's Creed Odyssey, or being lured back into Red Dead Redemption 2 or The Witcher 3!
