Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time announced — check out the new gameplay trailer here

By Sean Carey,
After suffering several leaks, Activision has finally announced Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, launching on October 2nd.

According to Activision, Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time is not a remaster, but a new original entry in the series — the first in more than 10 years. The game is developed by Toys for Bob who worked on the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy port and was responsible for the Spyro Reignited Trilogy. This new entry into the franchise picks up after the events of Crash Bandicoot: Warped, were Neo Corex, Dr N. Tropy and Uka Uka were stranded on a distant planet. Since then, they've made their escape and have ripped a hole in the fabric of space-time. Crash and Coco set out to stop the trio.

Throughout the game, players will uncover Quantum Masks, "the guardians of space and time", Activision says. The masks can "bend the rules of reality" and gives the player "advanced ways to conquer dangerous obstacles". These four masks and their differing abilities will need to be combined to "restore order to the multiverse". The two masks shown in the trailer are the Time Mask, which slows the gameplay down, and the Gravity Mask, which flips everything on its head. Players will be able to play as Crash or Coco, and even Neo Cortex as they tackle new gameplay mechanics such as wall-running, rail grinding and rope swinging.

Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time launches on PlayStation 4 on October 2nd.
