Update: Sony's PS5 reveal is happening imminently, and you can watch along with us in the livestream below.

Original story follows.

Sony has now announced a new date for the PS5 gameplay reveal event: it will now take place in just a few days, on June 11th at 1pm PDT / 9pm BST.

The event had originally been scheduled for last week on June 4th, but was delayed in response to the Black Lives Matter protests taking place around the world. PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan said to CNET, "There are moments in life when something happens around you and you realize that what you've been doing is either not big enough, not good enough, or just wrong. This is such a moment... We are going to take a good hard look at how we behave as a company, and how we behave towards our community." According to CNET, Sony's PlayStation division has pledged to donate $1 million to "causes supporting the black community."

Sid Shuman, Senior Director for SIE Content Communications, thanked everyone "for being patient and understanding while we rescheduled this PS5 event... We needed to step aside so key voices could be heard during this historic and important time."

Shuman emphasises that this week's pre-taped show will run at 1080p and 30 frames per second, which "eased the show's production" since many employees are working from home, but that "the games you'll see on Thursday will look even better when you play them on PS5 with a 4K TV." There'll also be some "cool audio work", and Sony recommends watching the event with headphones on.

The showcase will run for about an hour, and is only "part of [Sony's] series of PS5 updates" — there'll still be "much to share" in future. The event takes place on June 11th at 1:00pm PDT / 9pm BST, and can be watched on YouTube or Twitch.

Hey, I'm Heidi! I've just finished studying a Masters in English Literature, but I've been obsessed with gaming since long before then. I began on the PS2 with Spyro, before graduating to the Xbox 360 and disappearing into Skyrim. I'm now a loyal RPG fan, but I still like to explore other genres — when I'm not playing Assassin's Creed Odyssey, or being lured back into Red Dead Redemption 2 or The Witcher 3!
