Following on from the recent delay of The Last of Us Part II, PlayStation has now announced new release dates for both Naughty Dog's title and Ghost of Tsushima. The Last of Us Part II will now be released on June 19th, with Ghost of Tsushima now planned for release on the 17th July.

The Last of Us Part II was delayed back in April, as per PlayStation's announcement that "Logistically, the global crisis is preventing us from providing the launch experience our players deserve." The game has had a tricky time recently, being plagued with major plot spoilers. Sony has since stepped forwards to announce they had identified the individual responsible for the leaks, and that they weren't associated with Naughty Dog or Sony. Director Neil Druckmann has also commented on the leaks and his own disappointment, but reassured fans that "No matter what you see and hear, the final experience will be worth it".

Last year, meanwhile, Ghost of Tsushima was revealed to have a summer release date, with this later being narrowed down to June 26th. This slight delay still puts that game within its original summer 2020 release window, although it means an extra three weeks of waiting for what looks to be an incredible game.

PlayStation's announcement of these new release dates comes from Head of Worldwide Studios Hermen Hulst, who explains the update: "as our teams at Sony Interactive Entertainment and Worldwide Studios approach development milestones and confront a world changed by COVID-19, we find ourselves having to adapt to today’s ever-changing environment", and that these dates were confirmed after they began "to see an ease in the global distribution environment". Hulst adds: "I want to personally congratulate and thank both the teams at Naughty Dog and Sucker Punch Productions on their achievements, as we know it’s not an easy feat to reach the finish line under these circumstances. Both teams have worked hard to deliver world-class experiences, and we can’t wait to see what you think of them when they release in just a few short months."

The Last of Us Part II will now release on 19th June, while Ghost of Tsushima will release on 17th July.

Hey, I'm Heidi! I've just finished studying a Masters in English Literature, but I've been obsessed with gaming since long before then. I began on the PS2 with Spyro, before graduating to the Xbox 360 and disappearing into Skyrim. I'm now a loyal RPG fan, but I still like to explore other genres — when I'm not playing Assassin's Creed Odyssey, or being lured back into Red Dead Redemption 2 or The Witcher 3!
