PlayStation Network download speeds to be slowed in Europe due to Coronavirus pandemic

By Sean Carey,
Sony Interactive Entertainment will begin slowing down download speeds across the PlayStation Network in Europe due to the increased demand placed on the internet. With many people stuck inside due to social distancing measures set by various governments across the world, services like Netflix and YouTube have seen considerable increases in usage and have had to limit streaming quality.

Now Sony will be taking measures to do its part to reduce the strain on the internet. In a PlayStation Blog post, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, Jim Ryan has said that the company is working alongside internet service providers in Europe to manage download traffic. "We believe it is important to do our part to address internet stability concerns as an unprecedented number of people are practising social distancing and are becoming more reliant on internet access."

Players might experience slower game downloads than usual, but online gameplay shouldn't be affected.
