Kojima makes Death Stranding "coming soon" trailer, but it might just be a 1917 homage

By Sam Quirke,
Hideo Kojima loves to troll his fans as much as he loves movies, which may explain his latest Twitter gambit is a "coming 2020" trailer for Death Stranding. While the game is headed to PC this year, the style of the trailer almost suggests that something more significant is on the way. That is until you realise that it's an in-game rendition of a completely different trailer. The framing of the footage and the super-imposition of the year is identical to the last few moments of the trailer for 1917, a Sam Mendes movie set during the Great War.

You can check out the original trailer for 1917 here – pay particular attention to the No Man's Land scene that starts around 2:05 for a comparison.

Many outlets have speculated that this might be a genuine tease, either for news about the upcoming PC port – which at this point has no official release window – or some entirely new content for the PlayStation version. However, we're banking on this simply being a classic Kojima move, unexpectedly stuffing a bit of a movie he liked into his project however he sees fit. And we love him for it, of course.

The PC port of Death Stranding is being published by 505 Games. As far as we know, there are no plans for additional content in Death Stranding's console edition.
