Sony are closing the PlayStation forums next week

By Heidi Nicholas,
Sony recently announced their decision to close all of the PlayStation forums, starting next week, February 27th. The forums have been a fixture for more than two decades, and although Sony haven't given a reason for their closure, they say players can still get involved on the PlayStation blog and social media platforms.

Several members of the PlayStation community have replied to the announcement to note their disappointment and regret at seeing the forums go, saying they've been there since the original days, and through the PS2 and PS3 eras as well. Some seemed to feel the forums declined towards the end of the PS4 period as members began to empty out into other hubs, but said that although they hadn't been on the forums recently, they had used them in the past to start up friendships, take part in competitions, and argue about a whole bunch of stuff, PlayStation-related or not.

The announcement comes from Community Manager Groovy_Matthew. It's pretty brief and doesn't go into why Sony might have decided to close the forums, but it could be for the same reason; that the forums have been declining for some time, as people begin to move over to discussions in other hubs and social media platforms. Groovy_Matthew says members can still participate on the PlayStation Blog, and on their Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.

The forums will be made unavailable from February 27th.

Hey, I'm Heidi! I've just finished studying a Masters in English Literature, but I've been obsessed with gaming since long before then. I began on the PS2 with Spyro, before graduating to the Xbox 360 and disappearing into Skyrim. I'm now a loyal RPG fan, but I still like to explore other genres — when I'm not playing Assassin's Creed Odyssey, or being lured back into Red Dead Redemption 2 or The Witcher 3!
