Sony launch a PS5 webpage and mailing list

By Heidi Nicholas,
There's been a few dribs and drabs of news about Sony's next-generation PlayStation 5; a few leaks and rumours, but nothing hugely conclusive: most recently, we learned that Sony haven't yet decided on a price for the PS5. Now, though, Sony have launched a webpage, with a mailing list to sign up for all PS5 news and announcements, including the PS5 release date and launch titles.

"We've begun to share some of the incredible features you can expect from PlayStation 5, but we're not quite ready to fully unveil the next generation of PlayStation", the site reads. "Sign up below to be among the first to receive updates as we announce them, including news on the PS5 release date, PS5 price and the upcoming roster of PS5 launch games." The webpage was spotted by Nibel on Twitter, who also points out that it doesn't exactly bode well for a PS5 reveal in February. It had never officially been confirmed as the PS5's reveal month, but constant leaks and rumours had indicated a big announcement of the sort during February, and many PlayStation fans had been hoping for PS5 news by then; particularly since Microsoft have already unveiled their next-gen console, the Xbox Series X. Sony's phrasing indicates that we may yet have a bit of a wait before they're "ready to unveil the next generation" of their PlayStation console. It's not just this statement that indicates they're not yet willing to go public with details. As we mentioned earlier today, Sony's latest earnings call told us that they were unwilling to publicly announce a price range for the PS5 because of competition from other platforms.

It seems that Sony want to play their cards close to their chest for a while longer yet, although the fact that we've now got a mailing list to sign up for news is promising. Plus, we've at least got one piece of PS5 information to tide us over: the first title to have been announced as a PS5 game was Godfall, a looter-slasher which was unveiled at last year's The Game Awards, and is still one of the only glimpses we've had of anything coming to the next generation of PlayStation. While we wait for more announcements, you can sign up here to get updates of all PS5 news, and we'll do our best to keep you posted.

Hey, I'm Heidi! I've just finished studying a Masters in English Literature, but I've been obsessed with gaming since long before then. I began on the PS2 with Spyro, before graduating to the Xbox 360 and disappearing into Skyrim. I'm now a loyal RPG fan, but I still like to explore other genres — when I'm not playing Assassin's Creed Odyssey, or being lured back into Red Dead Redemption 2 or The Witcher 3!
