There's already three major DLCs planned for Nioh 2 By Heidi Nicholas, 23 Jan 2020 CommentsA new story trailer and PlayStation blog give us the most detailed look at the backstory of Nioh 2 that we've had so far, as well as outlining the post-launch DLC planned for the game. The game is set in 1555 in Sengoku-era Japan, the time of the "Warring States". The land is ravaged by war and the demonic evil spirits known as the yokai. The player-character is a rogue mercenary and yokai hunter, isolated from mankind and hiding the fact that they were born to human and yokai parents: they're half human, half demon, and are able to take on the yokai form. When the protagonist loses control of their demonic side, they're rescued with the help of a nomadic merchant named Tokichiro. The merchant has possession of several "Spirit Stones", magic artefacts which give the user the ability to communicate with the yokai, and the player-character can use these to regain control. The two set out to find more Spirit Stones at the behest of a warlord, who wants to see the stones located and recovered. Other forces are seeking the stones and Tokichiro and our protagonist are attacked whilst on their mission, escaping only with the help of a yokai huntswoman called Mumyo. Mumyo joins them in the Owari Province, where the trio end up working for Oda Nobunaga. They're still in danger from those other nefarious parties looking for the stones, and Team Ninja says this premise sets the stage for the "epic saga of our half-breed yokai hunter". Team Ninja have also given us a look at what we can expect in the game's future, in terms of DLC. "We have 3 major DLC releases planned, with each focusing on a different storyline that pre-dates the events of Nioh 2, promising hours of additional gameplay that will provide plenty of challenge for those thirsting for more", says Tom Lee, Creative Director of Team Ninja. The new DLC, which will have new weapons, new combat abilities, and new characters, will include multiple main missions, as well as sub-missions. Lee confirms that these three DLC packs will be included in the Season Pass for Nioh 2, which is itself included in the Digital Deluxe Edition of the game, already available to pre-order. The Digital Deluxe Edition is currently going for £74.99, and aside from the season pass, includes the Demon Horde weapons, the Kodama Netsuke charm, a PS4 theme and a PS4 avatar set. Furthermore, pre-ordering the Digital Deluxe Edition will also get players the Demon Horde armour set, Sudama Netsuke charm, a PS4 theme, and a PS4 avatar set.Nioh 2 releases on March 13th, 2020.PlayStation 4 Written by Heidi NicholasHey, I'm Heidi! I've just finished studying a Masters in English Literature, but I've been obsessed with gaming since long before then. I began on the PS2 with Spyro, before graduating to the Xbox 360 and disappearing into Skyrim. I'm now a loyal RPG fan, but I still like to explore other genres — when I'm not playing Assassin's Creed Odyssey, or being lured back into Red Dead Redemption 2 or The Witcher 3!
