Report: PS5 Will Have Exclusive Titles at Launch Unlike Xbox Series X

By Sean Carey,
Much to the dismay of Xbox fans, Microsoft announced earlier in the week that its next console, the Xbox Series X will not be receiving any exclusive games for at least a year after its launch, with the company releasing first-party exclusives on the Xbox One X and the Series X. Sony is reportedly taking a different approach with the PS5 and exclusive titles.

PS5 Launch titles

On a recent episode of the Kotaku Splitscreen podcast, veteran journalist and Kotaku editor, Jason Schreier believes that there will be some PS5 exclusive launch titles, "I've heard some of the PS5 launch titles. I won't say them yet as I am probably going to try and to do some kind of report on that stuff for the future, but those will be on PS5 only."

If Schreier is to be believed, Sony could be going all out with the PS5 at launch in terms of first-party exclusives and will be trying to sway players over to buying a PS5. This is similar to how the PS4 launch was handled with exclusives like Killzone Shadow Fall and Knack being available on the PS4 only.

Although we haven't had any news on a potential PS5 launch exclusive just yet, we do know Microsoft's plans for the Series X, and that the company will be taking a cross-generational approach to its launch titles, and is instead, promoting an Xbox ecosystem. Head of Xbox Game Studios, Matt Booty said in a recent interview, "As our content comes out over the next year, two years, all of our games, sort of like PC, will play up and down that family of devices. We want to make sure that if someone invests in Xbox between now and [the Series X] that they feel that they made a good investment and that we’re committed to them with content."
