The Top PlayStation Store Downloads of 2019

By Heidi Nicholas,
PlayStation have released a table of the titles most downloaded last year, with separate results for PS4, PS VR, free-to-play games, and DLC and Expansions. It's no surprise to see Modern Warfare is the most downloaded PS4 game, but it is surprising to see that battle royale giant Fortnite was beaten out of the top spot in the most downloaded free-to-play games. Have a look below:

  20. Marvel's Spider-Man

2019 was clearly a good time to be a Star Wars fan, with both Star Wars Battlefront II and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order being on the list. Battlefront II, after a wobbly reception, has been buoying itself up in popularity with consistent and frequent updates; the most recent being The Rise of Skywalker content which joined the game last month as a tie-in to the movie. The game was already two years old by 2019, and it's those constant updates which are most likely responsible for it still being so popular. Fallen Order, another EA Star Wars title, has done considerably well to be one of the most downloaded PS4 games of 2019, considering it only came out a month before 2019 ended. PlayStation's exclusives continue to show their popularity, with two 2018 titles, God of War and Marvel's Spider-Man, still being consistently downloaded last year.

Apex Legends

It is surprising to see that any title managed to beat Fortnite as the most downloaded free-to-play game of 2019, but Apex Legends would be the one to do it. To be fair, Fortnite's not being at no. 1 probably has more to do with the fact that pretty much everyone who's going to play it has already had it downloaded for some time — which most likely also explains why Fortnite completely dominates the most downloaded DLC and expansions list, to the point that there isn't actually anything from any other game on it:

DLC and expansions

  1. Fortnite – The Laguna Pack
  2. Fortnite – The Cobalt Pack
  3. Fortnite: Battle Royale – The Wilde Pack
  4. Fortnite: Battle Royale – The Red Strike Pack
  5. Fortnite – The Wavebreaker Pack
  6. Fortnite: Battle Royale – Breakpoint’s Challenge Pack
  7. Fortnite – Lava Legends Pack
  8. Fortnite: Save the World – Standard Founder’s Pack

Hey, I'm Heidi! I've just finished studying a Masters in English Literature, but I've been obsessed with gaming since long before then. I began on the PS2 with Spyro, before graduating to the Xbox 360 and disappearing into Skyrim. I'm now a loyal RPG fan, but I still like to explore other genres — when I'm not playing Assassin's Creed Odyssey, or being lured back into Red Dead Redemption 2 or The Witcher 3!
