Fantasy-themed Battle Royale Game Spellbreak PS4 Beta Announced

By Sean Carey,
During Sony's State of Play live stream, a new fantasy-themed battle royale was announced. Spellbreak will have players battling it out as a battlemage, casting spells, combining elements and flying through the game world. A closed beta will be made available to players in Spring 2020.

Spellbreak is an epic fantasy action spellcasting game where players choose a class, weave spectacular spell combinations and fight other players to become an all-powerful battlemage. Spellbreak features a deep item and class system that allows players to dominate the Hollow Lands as a solo competitor or play with friends in a non-stop quest for survival.

Spellbreak is a new take on the battle royale genre. Instead of guns and grenades, players will use magic to battle their way to number one. Seth Sivak, CEO of Proletariate said in a PlayStation Blog post, "Guns and grenades can only take you so far, and we wanted to explore something different, something that harkens back to the fantasy books that we grew up reading.

"We took our inspiration from old-school shooters with skill shots and crazy mobility, and we added in some modern twists to make a combat system that truly embodies fantasy action spellcasting. Add to that our spin on battle royale with elements of rogue-like and RPGs, along with a gorgeous art style, and you have something we feel is totally unique."

Players will dual-wield magical gauntlets that have two different abilities which allow the player four active combat options. Runes can also be used to provide powerful movement and support abilities. Players can also use the wind to launch themselves into the sky or create tornados to attack their enemies. There are dozens of combinations of spells to be found in Spellbreak. There is a class system that unlocks various skills and powers.
