After Months of Speculation, There's Now a Release Date Trailer for the Last of Us Part II By Heidi Nicholas, 25 Sep 2019 CommentsPlaystation's State of Play Stream covered a range of reveals, ending with perhaps the most anticipated of all: a release date trailer for The Last of Us Part II, giving the game's release date as February 21st, 2020. "If you run into anything you can't handle, you come back," Ellie's told before setting off on patrol. Clearly, it's not going to be that simple.SPOILER WARNING: Spoilers in the trailer and article below. It's been months since the last glimpse of The Last of Us II. This trailer begins with Ellie and Dina, who looks to be an important romantic character in Ellie's life. The trailer's quick to build up to the game's usual level of suspense; whilst there's plenty of shots of a settlement filled with people and light and relative safety, this quickly derails. Ellie and Dina are sent out on a patrol which seems to go entirely wrong; they get separated, and it looks as though Dina is shot. Ellie sets off on a vengeance mission against what looks like a highly-armed, ruthless cult. Cue the second spoiler: Joel is back, and apparently determined to set out on the revenge mission with her.The game's site gives more information. "Five years after their dangerous journey across the post-pandemic United States, Ellie and Joel have settled down in Jackson, Wyoming. Living amongst a thriving community of survivors has allowed them peace and stability, despite the constant threat of the infected and other, more desperate survivors. When a violent event disrupts that peace, Ellie embarks on a relentless journey to carry out justice and find closure. As she hunts those responsible one by one, she is confronted with the devastating physical and emotional repercussions of her actions." Ellie's journey takes her from her mountainous Jackson settlement to the overgrown ruins of Seattle, and she'll apparently be coming across new survivor groups, new environments, and of course relentless infected. Neil Druckmann, Director of The Last of Us Part II, spoke about the game in the PlayStation blog. "We know how much you love this world and its characters — especially Ellie and Joel. Believe me, we’re fans as well. We love them. Which is why we spent years crafting a game that we feel will do them justice, telling a nuanced story that deals with the core question: how far would you go to exact justice against the people that hurt the ones you love? It’s a highly emotional story with complex themes that befit the world of The Last of Us...To tell this kind of story the game needed to be massive." He describes the game as "Naughty Dog’s most ambitious and longest game" in their "35 year history." Druckmann's post also detailed the various editions available for The Last of Us Part II: Standard Edition, Special Edition, Collector's Edition, Ellie Edition, and Digital Deluxe Edition. I began on the PS2 with Spyro, before graduating to the Xbox 360 and disappearing into Skyrim.
