Captain Price (and Mustache) Return in the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Story Trailer

PlayStation's State of Play stream harbours a good number of announcements, release dates, and trailer reveals. One of the biggest of these was the reveal of the story trailer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare:

The story trailer was followed by a wave of new information on Modern Warfare's site. "Chemical weapons have fallen into terrorist hands: They could be anywhere." After central London suffered an attack, Captain Price suggests a trip to Urzikstan. Captain Price and the SAS are partnering up with the CIA and Commander Farah Karim, the leader of the Urzikstani Liberation Force (ULF), to recover these stolen chemical weapons. The Campaign ranges from stealth missions to long-range combat, and takes players across the world, from London to the Middle East and beyond.

Numerous factions will feature in the game: the SAS, "Tier-1 special forces with the tech to own the night and the enemy", the Al-Qatala, a "Terrorist group hell bent on inflicting mass casualties anywhere, anytime", the CIA, "Agents who provide intel to and reinforce domestic and international partner forces", the Urzik Militia, "Freedom fighters who defend their homeland from occupiers and terrorists", and Barkov's Forces, "Mercs and soldiers who carry out the General’s brutal agenda".

The reveal of the story trailer was followed by the announcement that PS4 owners will get access to the Special Ops Survival Mode first; a year before it becomes available to Xbox owners. This timed exclusivity runs until October 1st, 2020. This news was met with a certain amount of controversy. Xbox players who had pre-ordered the game were angry that they wouldn't have access to the same content, but Studio Narrative Director for the game, Taylor Kurosaki, was quick to respond.

"You can play Spec Ops and every new bit of content we drop, day one. The only timed exclusivity is Survival, which is a sliver of Spec Ops", he said in another reply on Twitter. In other Modern Warfare news, if you purchase the game digitally, you net yourself the XRK Weapons Pack. Modern Warfare releases on October 25th.

Hey, I'm Heidi! I've just finished studying a Masters in English Literature, but I've been obsessed with gaming since long before then. I began on the PS2 with Spyro, before graduating to the Xbox 360 and disappearing into Skyrim. I'm now a loyal RPG fan, but I still like to explore other genres — when I'm not playing Assassin's Creed Odyssey, or being lured back into Red Dead Redemption 2 or The Witcher 3!
