Player Feedback Leads to Changes for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Loot Boxes

By Rebecca Smith,
Last Friday, news broke that players were becoming unhappy with certain aspects of the Operation Grand Heist season in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, more specifically the implementation of Cases, the game's loot boxes. Developer Treyarch listened to the feedback and they've made some changes to the loot box mechanic that are now live.

Operation Grand Heist

Players can now earn Cases by completing Tiers at the end of the Contraband stream. At the same time, players will earn double the amount of progress towards Cases unlocked through gameplay. Treyarch has reverted back to an earlier version of the Tier Skips too, so these now grant a Case for each Tier across all game modes.

When Treyarch implemented the system on PlayStation 4 last Tuesday, the aim was to allow players to unlock content before they hit Tier 100. Unfortunately this meant that progress after Tier 100 was affected negatively. These changes should help to solve that problem. Players who were negatively affected by the changes and feel like they may have missed out on loot earned post Tier 100 do not need to panic. For every Tier completed after Tier 100, those players will have been retroactively awarded Cases to their account.

Friday's update also added Hot Pursuit mode to Blackout. In this mode, police variants of the helicopter and ATV have been added to the map, as well as three new vehicles — SUV, PBR, and Muscle Car. The new vehicles give players better abilities but also leave them more exposed. Muscle cars allow players to spot Supply Caches more easily, but they're easily detectable by police vehicles. There are more frequent Supply Stashes and Supply Drops, and each circle Collapse allows team members to respawn as long as one of their team mates is still alive. No respawns happen during the final Collapse. The winner, of course, is the last team standing.

The loot box changes and Hot Pursuit are available right now alongside bug fixes for all modes — you can find more details on that here.
